donald trump canceled tomorrow afternoon's rally in west allis. his camp blames a scheduling conflict. trump is planning to visit four other states tomorrow, but his running mate, mike pence, did campaign in southeastern wisconsin today. he took the stage in mukwonago with other gop leaders, including house speaker paul ryan and senator ron johnson. pence called for unity within the party. >> i'd like you to reach out, particularly to our fellow republicans, our fellow republicans across wisconsin in your own circle. i think we need to say to our fellow republicans and conservatives he with one voice, it's time to come home. sheldon: both candidates in wisconsin's tight u.s. senate race were out today. incumbant ron johnson was at the gop rally in mukwonago. democratic challenger russ feingold campaigned in the western and central parts of the state. >> we need a volatile election-year. you never know what will happen
it is between those who take away our freedoms and those of us who respect you, believe in you. sheldon: there is a lot riding on that race. it is extremely close between feingold and johnson. the final marquette law school poll found feingold leading johnson by just one point, 45% to 44% among likely voters. house speaker paul ryan is also on the ballot next week. adrienne: the janesville republican spoke with our political reporter kent presidential race, and ryan's future as speaker of the house. >> do you think your decision not to campaign for donald trump hurt his chances here in wisconsin? >> no, not at all, and i was going to go tomorrow in west allis if donald came. look, if our nominee was going to be in wisconsin, and i was also in wisconsin.
because i think republicans need to unify. >> you put on hold your campaigning, not only for yourself, but for other house republicans to spend these last few days campaigning with ron johnson. why? >> well, i just went to 45 cities in 17 states the last three weeks to fight for house republicans, but i'm spending four days on the bus with ron johnson criss-crossing wisconsin, because ron johnson deserves re-election. >> what are your plans in terms of your future as speaker? >> i'm going to stay on as speaker. you know why? because i made sure that house republicans offered up a very specific, principled agenda to save this country to fix our problems. i want to go executed that agenda now. that's why i'm going to stay on as speaker. >> let's say you're right about that, and you continue to be speaker and hillary clinton wins the election. how do you work with her to get things done? >> i'd like to not think about that. that's not going to be the case. i don't think hillary clinton is going to moderate. i think she's going to stay left. she's going to tack left. >> have you ever witnessed an election play out the way this one has? >> this one is definitely
